Inspirations…..

Kicking off our inspiration series, we thought we’d start with the top 5 feature documentaries that inspired our upcoming feature documentary ”Stevie Hyper D: The Hidden Influence”. Counting down from 5-1;

5. Stretch & Bobbito: Radio That Changed Lives

The story of two unsung heroes of NYC hip-hop; DJ Stretch Armstrong & Bobbito Garcia. Featuring contributions from Jay Z, Nas, Busta Rhymes, Raekwon, Eminem, Fat Joe & more.

4. Evelyn

Directed by Oscar winning film maker, Orlando Von Einsiedel (“The White Helmets”). Evelyn tells the story of Orlando’s brother who sadly committed suicide.

A family dealing with grief, go on a journey of self discovery.

3. Time is Illmatic

The story of the making of classic hip-hop album “Illmatic”.

Told via its creator and one of the greatest MCs of all time, Nas, his brother Jungle and his father Olu Dara, in amongst the backdrop of 90s New York.

2. Senna

Ayrton Senna sadly died tragically and suddenly in a crash whilst motor racing. He was one of the most formidable racing drivers in history.

This hugely influential film was made by Oscar winning director and fellow Londoner, Asif Kapadia (“Amy”) and is solely made up of archive footage with no talking heads.

1. Searching for Sugar Man

The film that kickstarted it all for us and number one on our list. Sixto Rodriguez was an enigma and a great artist, a folk-tale like hero. The film gathered proper public momentum like nothing ever seen before or since and in 2013; won the Oscar for Best Documentary.

Sadly it’s director Malik Bendjelloul committed suicide and it was the only feature documentary he ever made. Malik we salute you.

We’d highly recommend you check out all of these films, if you want a snapshot of the levels we have aimed for.

Massive salute to all of the film makers. Each of these is a classic in their own right and a huge inspiration for us. Keep an eye on our blog here and also social media for regular updates on our film.
